Any tips for painting the Steampunk terrain and floor tiles?

HI Guys

Any tips for how to paint the steampunk walls and tiles as seen in the kickstarter promo?

I'm sure many of us are keen to get started on it asap, it looks awesome.

Even just a basic description would be extremely helpful and appreciated.

Sincere thanks for the paint guide. You've saved me making a mess of my terrain. I was actually considering using bronze spray paint and washes, it would have looked terrible.

Hiya. Yeah no problem. I’m actually still finalising the exact approach, the steampunk terrain in the video were test pieces. Once I’ve settled on the scheme, I’ll put together a quick summary and post it here.

Just checking in to see if there’s been any progress on those painting tips for the steampunk terrain. Totally appreciate that things take time and understand you’ve got a lot on your plate but I (and probably a few others!) am still keen to get painting and would love even a quick update or rough breakdown if you've had a chance to experiment further.

Yeah not enough hours in the day unfortunately!

A quick rundown on what I settled on for our Steampunk terrain. There are two main components to the terrain - stonework and metal. I do the metal first then the stone.

Below are the paints I use, I know the Josonja craft paints aren’t available everywhere but for any of the paints listed, just Google the colour and sub in anything close and it should still work well.

Black matte primer

Josonja Nimbus Grey or any rough equivalent grey

Josonja Titanium White or any rough equivalent white

Citadel Lahmian Medium

Citadel Contrast Aethermatic Blue

Citadel Agrax Earthshade

Citadel Nuln Oil

Citadel Mournfang Brown

Citadel Skrag Brown

Citadel Fire Dragon Bright

Citadel Lead Belcher

STONE

Prime black
Drybrush of a mid grey, I use Josonja craft paint Nimbus Grey, but you can use anything close.
Light drybrush of white hitting random sections heavier to create interesting highlight areas. Allow to fully dry.
For these wash steps, I recommend having the washes and their own brushes all out in front of you and ready to go.
Apply a very light coat of Lahmian medium to the stone, then introduce a very small amount of Aethermatic Blue to the Lahmian medium and spread it around. Less is more here, you just want to give the stone a subtle hint of the blue. You can dilute the Aethermatic Blue first and apply it as a wash but I found putting the Medium down first and adding the Aethermatic Blue to it on the model gave a better result. Your milage may vary.
Whilst step 4 is still wet, introduce an even smaller amount of Agrax Earthshade and Nuln Oil very sparingly in random spots here and there to ‘dirty up’ the stonework

METAL

Prime black
We’re going for a quick dirty rusted metal look. Use an old brush (preferably with shaggy, haphazard bristles) to stipple Mournfang Brown all over the metal in a very random manner. You can also use a piece of foam sponge for this step or combine both.
Stipple Skrag Brown all over the metal in same approach as step 2.
Sparingly stipple Fire Dragon Bright all over
Give the metal an all over drybrush with Leadbelcher, enough to give it a metal look but keeping enough rust visible to your taste. Allow to dry.
Mix a wash of 50/50 Agrax Earthshade and Nuln Oil and apply all over.
